Gary and the Hornets - Baby It’s You (1967)

//Gary and the Hornets were a Franklin, Ohio based band that consisted of three brothers: Gary Calvert (vocals, guitar), Greg Calvert (bass) and Steve Calvert (drums). Gary was eleven, Greg was fourteen and Steve was seven at the time they recorded their best known material in 1966.

Hal Blaine - Legendary session drummer for Phil Spector and Lee Hazlewood. Hal was the first session player inducted in to the Rock ‘n Roll HOF. He’s played on 50 number one hits and over 150 top ten hits between ’61 to ‘76 including Good Vibrations, These Boots Are Made For Walkin’, and Mr. Tambourine Man(Byrds). Hal’s resume includes some of the most famous recordings ever created and when you add them all up it is nothing short of amazing. Hal spent much of his music career playing with the famed session band the Wrecking Crew. I finished reading his autobiography, Hal Blaine and the Wrecking Crew, a couple of months ago and highly recommend it to anyone interested in modern drumming, as well as the early origins of Rock ‘n Roll/studio recording.

Kitchen Cinq - Need All The Help I Can Get (1967)

//Recorded under the supervision of songwriter/arranger/producer Lee Hazlewood and released by Hazlewood’s Hollywood-based LHI label. Lee, a true musical pioneer and a real character, would of turned 84 today.

Lee Hazlewood - She Comes Running & the House Song (1968)

//Great behind the scenes studio session featuring the Wrecking Crew’s prolific Hal Blaine on drums, Elvis’ James Burton on guitar, and famed arranger/composer Billy Strange on the keys.
